Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering - GATE 2012

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all India examination administered and conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science and seven Indian Institutes of Technology on behalf of the National Coordination Board - GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India. The GATE committee, which comprises of representatives from the administering institutes, is the sole authority for regulating the examination and declaring the results.

GATE is conducted through the constitution of eight zones. The zones and the corresponding administrative institutes are:

Zone-1: Indian Institute of Science Bengaluru

Zone-2: Indian Institute of Technology Bombay

Zone-3: Indian Institute of Technology Delhi

Zone-4: Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati

Zone-5: Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur

Zone-6: Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur

Zone-7: Indian Institute of Technology Madras

Zone-8: Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee

The overall coordination and responsibility of conducting GATE 2012 lies with Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, designated as the Organizing Institute for GATE 2012.

Eligibility for GATE

The following categories of candidates ONLY are eligible to appear for GATE:

Bachelor’s degree holders in Engineering/Technology/ Architecture (4 years after 10+2) and those who are in the final year of such programmes.
Master’s degree holders in any branch of Science/Mathematics/ Statistics/Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final year of such programmes.
Candidates in the second or higher year of the Four-year Integrated Master’s degree programme (Post-B.Sc.) in Engineering/Technology.
Candidates in the fourth or higher year of Five-year Integrated Master’s degree programme or Dual Degree programme in Engineering/Technology.
Candidates with qualifications obtained through examinations conducted by professional societies recognized by UPSC/AICTE (e.g. AMIE by Institute of Engineers (India); AMICE by Institute of Civil Engineers (India)) as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech. Those who have completed section A or equivalent of such professional courses are also eligible.

ONLINE examination in two additional papers:
In GATE 2011, the papers with codes GG, TF, AE and MN had ONLINE examination. In GATE 2012, two additional papers, AR and AG, will also have ONLINE examination. The ONLINE examination will be conducted in two sessions on Sunday, January 29, 2012.
Forenoon session (09:00 hrs to 12:00 hrs): AR, GG and TF.
Afternoon session (14:00 hrs to 17:00 hrs): AE, AG and MN.

Question Paper Pattern
GATE 2012 would contain questions of four different types in various papers:
(i) Multiple choice questions carrying 1 or 2 marks each; (ii) Common data questions, where two successive questions use the same set of input data;
(iii)Linked answer questions, where the answer to the first question in the pair is required to answer its successor; and
(iv)Numerical answer questions, where the answer is a number, to be entered by the candidate.

Admission

Admission to postgraduate programmes with MHRD and some other Government scholarships/assistantships in engineering colleges/institutes is open to those who qualify in GATE examination.

Scholarship
To avail the scholarship, the candidate must secure admission to such a postgraduate programme, as per the prevailing procedure of the admitting institution. However, candidates with Master's degree in Engineering/Technology/Architecture may seek admission to relevant Doctoral programmes with scholarship/assistantship without appearing in the GATE examination.

SNAP Test for Symbiosis Postgraduate Programmes

Symbiosis National Aptitude (SNAP) Test is a common and mandatory written test for the admission to all the Post-Graduate Institutes of Symbiosis International University. However, it is only the first step. In addition, a candidate has to undergo the selection process of the desired Institute to qualify for the admission to the Post-Graduate programme of that Institute.

SIU has started with effect from this year Commence an additional test for non-MBA Courses as follows:

1) SIMC – MMC- (For Pune campus only)

2) SIG – M. Sc (Geoinformatics)

These tests would enable admission for students selecting the MMC course of SIMC (Pune) and for the M. Sc (Geoinformatics) course of SIG. However in addition to this candidates appearing for SNAP Test are also eligible for SIMC – MMC-(For Pune campus only) and SIG – M. Sc (Geoinformatics).

Eligibility :

To apply for SNAP one should be a graduate having scored at least 50% (general) or 45% (SC/ST) marks. Final year students can also apply.

Eligibility Requirements For Admission

The candidates who qualify in JAM 2012 shall have to fulfill the following eligibility criteria for admissions in IITs. (i) At least 55% aggregate marks (taking into account all subjects, including languages and subsidiaries, all years combined) for General/OBC category candidates and at least 50% aggregate marks (taking into account all subjects, including languages and subsidiaries, all years combined) for SC, ST and PD category candidates in the qualifying degree.
For candidates with letter grades/CGPA (instead of percentage of marks), the equivalence in percentage of marks will be decided by the Admitting Institute(s).
(ii) Proof of having passed the qualifying degree with the minimum educational qualification as specified by the admitting institute should be submitted by 30 September 2012.

CEED (Common Entrance Examination for Design) 2012 :

Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED) is an all India examination conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay), on behalf of the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India.

The objective of CEED is to assess the candidate’s aptitude for design, involving visual perception ability, drawing skills, logical reasoning, creativity, and communication skills.

Programmes:

CEED is a qualifying examination for the following postgraduate programmes in design:

Master of Design Programmes
IISc Bangalore: M.Des. in Product Design and Engineering*
IIT Bombay: M.Des. in (i) Industrial Design, (ii) Visual Communication, (iii) Animation, (iv) Interaction Design, (v) Mobility and Vehicle Design.
IIT Delhi: M.Des. in Industrial Design
IIT Guwahati: M.Des. in Design
IIT Kanpur: M.Des. in Industrial Design*
*GATE qualified candidates will also be considered for admission to these programmes.
Ph.D Programmes in Design (IISc Bangalore, IIT Bombay)

Eligibility for CEED 2012:

Candidates either must have completed or be expecting to complete any of the following, by July 2012:
(i) Bachelor's degree in Engineering / Architecture / Design/ Interior Design or equivalent
(ii) Professional Diploma in Design (NID/CEPT or equivalent of 4 years duration after 10+2)
(iii) B.F.A. (4 year professional programme, after 10+2)
(iv) G.D. Art (5 year programme after 10th) with one year professional experience
(v) Master’s degree in Arts / Science / Computer Applications
The candidate is responsible for showing eligibility while seeking admission to the specific programme in which they are interested.
There is no age limit and a candidate can appear in CEED any number of times.

What is new in CEED 2012?

CEED 2012 examination will be conducted on Sunday, 4 December 2011 between 14:00 hrs to 17:00 hrs. This is approximately one month earlier than previous years.
The examination will be conducted in two Parts, A and B. All candidates must answer both Parts.

PART-A is a screening test.

PART-B will be evaluated for candidates who will be short-listed in the screening test

Application Form and Brochure:

CEED Application Form must be submitted online, through the website www.iitb.ac.in/gate. The application fee (non refundable) is Rs. 950/- (Rs. 475/- for SC/ST/PD Applicants).

Examination:

The examination is from 1400 hours to 1700 hours on Sunday, 4th December, 2011 and will not have any break.

Age (As on 01.08.2011): Minimum: 18 Years Maximum: 28 Years

Selection:

Each participating Public Sector Bank will independently issue a separate recruitment notification, specifying their vacancies and stipulating the eligibility criteria in terms of age, educational qualification, proficiency in Official Language of the State/UT for which vacancies he wishes to apply, experience (if any), minimum required level of IBPS score in each test and on Total Score (if any) etc.

Since clerical cadre recruitment would be on State-wise basis, candidates can apply for vacancies in one State/ UT only. It will therefore be necessary that candidates appear for examination in one of the centres of a particular State/UT where they would like to apply for employment i.e. they have to appear for the examination from a centre for that particular State/UT

The candidate may also be required to possess proficiency in the Official Language of the State/UT for which vacancies he wishes to apply to be eligible as per the notifications of the Participating Banks.

Written Examination Structure:

Test of Reasoning: 50 marks

Test of English Language 50 marks

Test of Numerical Ability 50 marks

Test of General Awareness with special reference to Banking Industry 50 marks

Test of Computer Knowledge 50 marks

Exam Time: 150 minutes

Cutoff Score :

Each candidate will have to secure a minimum standardized score in each of the tests to qualify in the written examination and to be considered for vacancies in the participating banks. The cut-off points will be decided based on the average (Average – ¼ Standard Deviation for General category candidates and Average – ¾ Standard Deviation for Reserved Category candidates).

Validity of CWE Score Card :

Score Cards issued by IBPS will be valid for one year from the date of issue of the Score Card. Candidates can appear in subsequent examination(s) to enhance their scores if they so desire.

Candidates can apply online only from 25.08.2011 to 24.09.2011 and no other mode of application will be accepted.

CEED Commmon Entrance Exam for Design

Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED) 2011 is conducted by Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB), on behalf of the Ministry of Human Resources Development (HRD), Department of Education (DAE), Government of India.

CEED 2011 is the qualifying examination for admission to Post Graduate M.Des. (i.e. Master of Design) programmes at the Industrial Design Centre (IIT Bombay), Inter disciplinary Industrial Design Programme (IIT Delhi), Centre for Product Design and Manufacturing (IISc Bangalore), Department of Design (IIT Guwahati) and Design Programme (IIT Kanpur) and Ph.D. Programmes in Design in some of these Institutes. However, IIT Kanpur and IISc Bangalore also consider GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) score for admission into design programmes. The examination tests the candidates for visual perception ability, drawing skills, design aptitude and communication skills.

Note: CEED 2011 / GATE 2011 qualification alone does not guarantee admission to design programmes offered at IITs or IISc Bangalore. Candidates also have to fulfill other requirements such as tests & interviews of the respective institutions (i.e. IIT or IISc Bangalore) for admission.

CEED 2011 Exam Pattern

CEED 2011 tests an individual’s drawing skills, aesthetic sensibility, creativity, problem identification and approach to visual and mechanical design. The examination also tests visualization, creativity, design and general awareness, and comprehension.
The candidates will be required to appear in a single examination of three hours duration without any break.
The question paper will be in English. No specific text book or guide book preparations are necessary to appear in CEED. Candidates may however polish up their drawing, rendering and visualization skills.

Before applying for CEED, candidates must assure themselves that they are eligible to seek admission to the specific programme they are interested in.

There is no age limit and a candidate can appear in CEED any number of times.

Following given institute wise eligibility criteria along with courses offered on the basis of CEED 2011.

A) For IISc. – Bangalore – M.Des:

Eligibility for applying to M.Des. programme is a degree in engineering / design / architecture. Selection for admission is based on performance in a design aptitude test (DAT) and interview to be conducted at the Centre towards the end of April /early May. Short-listing for DAT is done on the basis of applicants’ CEED or GATE score.

Candidates who are awaiting their CEED/GATE score can apply by quoting their CEED/GATE registration number. Institute will get their scores from the CEED/GATE office.

B) For IIT – Bombay

The candidates should have a minimum of 55% marks (50% in case of SC/ ST) or equivalent grades in the qualifying examination (as listed below). Candidates with 45% or higher marks with relevant experience of 2 years and exceptionally outstanding portfolio may also be considered.

Industrial Design:
i. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Architecture / Design/ Interior Design, or equivalent

ii. Professional Diploma in Design (NID/CEPT, or equivalent)

Visual Communication, Animation and Interaction Design:

i. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Architecture / Design/Interior Design, or equivalent

ii. Professional Diploma in Design (NID/CEPT, or equivalent)

iii. B.F.A. (4 year professional programme, after 10+2)

iv. G.D. Art (5 year programme after 10th) with one year professional experience

v. Master’s degree in Arts / Science / Computer Applications

C) For IIT – Delhi

Applicants for the M.Des. Industrial Design Programme at IIT Delhi must have minimum CGPA of 6.75 on a 10 point scale or 60% marks in aggregate for General Category. For the reserved category, this is relaxed by 5%.

Candidates should confirm their eligibility and CEED score requirements from prospectus available at the IIT Delhi website. Full-time sponsored candidates are also advised to clear the CEED Test which is essentially an aptitude test. There is also reservation of seats for OBC Candidates. D) IIT – Guwahati – M.Des:

a. 4-year Bachelors’ degree or equivalent in Design, Engineering, Architecture, Interior Design or a Design related field. OR

4 year Professional Diploma in Design of NID or Professional Diploma of CEPT (5-year program)

b. A minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grades (50% marks in case of SC/ST candidates) in the qualifying degree/diploma.

E) IIT – Kanpur

Candidates having a bachelor’s degree in engineering/design/architecture/ fine arts and a valid CEED/GATE score are eligible to apply for the Master of Design programme. CEED/GATE score is used for short listing the applicants. The short listed applicants will be called for a written test and interview to test their creativity and inclination for innovation.

Admissions will be offered on the basis of this test and interview.

SRI KRISHNA JANMASHTAMI

Shri Krishna Janmashtami, or Sri Krishna Jayanti, celebrates the birthday of Lord Krishna. In 2011, the date of Sri Krishna Jayanti in North India is August 22. In some parts of South India and in some parts of western India it is on August 21. It is observed as Dahi Handi in Maharashtra, the formation of the huge human pyramids to break the pot hung high up. The festival is also known as Gokulashtami and Krishnashtami.

Shri Krishna is today one of the most widely revered and most popular of all Hindu Gods. He is worshipped as the eighth incarnation or avatar of Lord Vishnu. Krishna is also worshipped as a supreme god in his own right by numerous sects around the world.

In North India, Shri Krishna Janmashtami is observed eight days after the full moon day in Hindi month Bhadrapada (August – September). In South India, the festival is observed on the eighth day after full moon in the month of Shravan (August – September).

The Sri Krishna Jayanti festival is not celebrated on the same day in all parts of India and this is due to the various regional calendars and the various calculations in the time of the birth of Krishna.

In 2011, Sri Krishna Jayanti is marked on August 21 in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and is some parts of Karnataka, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh. In North India, it is marked on August 22. The Smarta Tradition observes the festival on August 21 and the Vaishnava Tradition on August 22.

Special pujas are held in Sri Krishna Temples spread around the world and millions of people visit the shrines. Special poojas and rituals are held at midnight the time of Krishna’s birth.

Staunch Krishna devotees fast on the day. It is a 24-hour fast.

Largest gold financing company in the country

Muthoot Finance (Muthoot) is the largest gold financing company in India with a gross gold loan portfolio of Rs. 15.9bn as at March 2011 and a commanding market share (20% in FY10). Company’s AUM has witnessed a phenomenal 82% CAGR over the past four years driven by substantial network expansion, significant improvement in branch productivity, sustained rally in gold prices and strong brand recognition. Gold stock has increased from 23MT to 112MT over FY07-11 representing 49% CAGR. About 67% of the current ~2,900 branches are located in the southern region which contribute 74% to the gold loan portfolio.

AUM growth to moderate but balance sheet growth to be strong
We anticipate Muthoot’s AUM growth to slow down to a more normalized 37.5% pa over FY11-13 due to base effect, increasing penetration and competition in South (especially Kerala) and slower adoption of gold loan product in other regions. Further, if the gold rally were to halt, AUM growth would be purely volume driven. With limited incentive for assignments now, bulk of the incremental growth would be reflected on the balance sheet propping up the net loan CAGR to 57.5% over FY11-13. Business growth would be mainly driven by significant improvement in productivity of ~1,750 branches added in the past two years.

NIM to contract on sharp increase in funding cost
Notwithstanding the tailwind from IPO, Muthoot’s NIM is estimated to correct by 140bps in FY12 to 9.5% due to steep rise in the cost of funds. The cost of bank borrowings has increased by 150-200bps in recent months on account of lending rate hikes by banks and loss of PSL status for assignments. Any fresh retail secured NCD issuance by Muthoot would likely happen at elevated rates (11-12%) in-line with recent issuances by other NBFCs. The yield on loan portfolio is expected to remain firm during the year despite intensifying competition aided by the recent hike (100-150bps) in interest rate by the company.

RoA to marginally come-off; RoE to remain impressive though
Significant improvement in AUM/Branch (from Rs. 58mn to Rs. 80mn over FY11-13) and lower incremental marketing/promotion expenditure would drive some operating leverage. Resultantly, opex/average assets ratio is estimated to decline by 30bps over FY11-13 to 3.6% marginally cushioning the impact of NIM contraction on RoA. The recent IPO has augmented capital adequacy and reduced leverage. RoE, as a result, is likely to normalize to 30-35% from 51% in FY11. Considering the estimated robust earnings of 39% over FY11-13, we initiate coverage on Muthoot with a BUY rating and 9-month target of Rs. 202.

Andhra Pradesh Andhra Pradesh SSC Results 2011 will be announced on May 21. After publication of SSC Public Exams March 2011 results, candidates will be able to view results here online. Students can check the SSC results 2011 AP, including grades and subject-wise marks here at AP Online. SSC results 2011 at manabadi will also be available.

Andhra Pradesh SSC results will also be available to check through BSNL’s IVRS and SMS service. Students want for re-verification of answer scripts will have to submit Rs. 1000 per subject and for recounting of marks, they are required to pay Rs. 500 per subject.

No surprises in Icet-2011 exam...

Icet-2011 exam held at 276 centers in AP state conducted by Andhra University on 18 may, pattern similar to that of the previous year. Icet is the qualifying exam for admission into MBA and MCA colleges in the AP. The Communicative English section for 50 marks was tough and time consuming and the analytical and logical reasoning parts had questions similar to the ones that had appeared in previous examinations.
For Icet this year total of 1.5 lakh students had applied for the exam and 1.4 lakh students appeared. Questions under coding and decoding, odd man out and series completion sections were easier than last year. The question paper no mistake questions this time. Analysts say, no errors were found in the question paper, wait for the initial key to come out to find out if there are any errors.
Icet authorities says the initial Icet answer key will be released by May 22 and final key by May 27.

IBPS-Institute of Banking Personnel Selection, a common entrance examination for initial short listing of candidates for selection into clerical and entry level officer cadre and specialist officers in various nationalised banks in the country. The IBPS will conduct the exam twice a year for each cadre. This test aimed to help candidates avoid appearing for multiple examinations conducted by different banks for initial short listing.
The banks, participate in the common entrance examination system, include Allahabad Bank, Andhra Bank, Bank of Baroda, Bank of India, Bank of Maharashtra, Canara Bank, Central Bank of India, Corporation Bank, Dena Bank, India Bank, India Overseas Bank, Oriental Bank of Commerce, Punjab National Bank, Punjab and Sind Bank, Syndicate Bank, Union Bank of India, United Bank of India, UCO Bank and Vijaya Bank.
IBPS Bank Common test Score card:
Candidates appearing for the common entrance will be issued a score card that will be valid for a period of one year from the date of issue. Each bank, which desires to recruit candidates for its various cadres, will invite applications from the pool of candidates who have valid score cards from IBPS. The score card will specify the eligibility criteria including terms of age, educational qualifications and minimum score obtained in the written exam. A valid score card issued by the IBPS will be a pre-requisite for candidates to apply for clerical cadre, entry level officer cadre and specialists officers in the participating banks.
The IBPS will issue notifications to conduct the common examination and will also hold pre-recruitment training to SC and ST applicants at its various centers.
